tack: The gear used in riding that includes the basics such as bridle, bit, saddle and reins.

thoroughbred: A horse bred to feature special qualities that are intended to produce speed. Not necessarily a purebred horse.

top side: A horse's lineage or pedigree from the sire's side.

transition: The change from one pace to another.

trot: A steady, two-beat gait.

walk: The slowest of four standard gaits that also include trot, canter and gallop.

yearling: Any horse aged 12 months to 24 months.
